Module, Board Games To Teach Marine Environment

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Department of Environmental Protection together with the Malaysian World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) have come up with a new fun concept on how to educate the public on the importance of marine life.

To achieve the objective, the two bodies have produced a module and four board games on marine environmental education.

Speaking at the launch of the said module and board games yesterday, Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Assaffal P. Alias lauded the initiative as it will now serve as an additional tool that can be used for environmental education.

“The module and the games are good and I find them effective at teaching society to love the environment, especially marine life in Sabah,” said Assaffal at a press conference after the event.

He said that the board games would be distributed free to the public, as well as schools.

Assaffal pointed out that environmental protection is a responsibility that should be borne by the State Government together with all members of the public.

It is understood that the board games would also be available at the Sabah Department of Environmental Protection.

The workshop was attended by 50 participants, comprised of government officers and members of the Sabah Environmental Education Network.

Also present was Sabah Department of Environmental Protection director Yusrie Abdullah.
